East
Polk
Heritage
Center
is
located
in
Melland
Park,
Highway
#2
East,
Fosston,
Minnesota
56542.
The
house
was
built
in
1887
by
Lewis
William
Larson
–
hence
it
is
called
the
Larson
House.
In
1986,
Mr.
&
Mrs.
Allen
Potvin
donated
the
house
to
The
East
Polk
Heritage
Center
with
the
stipulation
that
it
would
be
moved
from
its
location
near
the
center
of
Fosston.
The
house
was
moved
to
its
present
location
in
Melland
Park
in
October
1986.
The
Larson
house
is
handicap
accessible
and
it
is
completely
furnished
with
antique
furniture,
including
a
beautiful
100-year-old
piano.
There
is
also
a
log
cabin
built
in
1995
and
furnished
in
1800’s
style.
In
addition,
there
is
a
small
cabin,
which
was
the
home
of
the
legendary
lumberjack
Cordwood
Pete
(Peder
LeDang
-
who
died
in
1954
and
is
buried
in
Rose
Hill
Cemetery
in
Fosston).
There
many
stories
about
Cordwood
Pete,
some
true
but
most
of
them
contrived.
